About the Symposium
Now in its 8th iteration, the NILIS Annual Research Symposium is a leading platform for advancing research in Library and Information Science, while embracing a broader multidisciplinary perspective. It welcomes contributions from fields such as informatics, education, health literacy, and mass media.
This year’s symposium highlights the role of knowledge as a catalyst for inclusion—empowering senior citizens, children, adults, diverse religious and ethnic communities, and marginalized groups through equitable access to information.
We also explore how emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and augmented reality can be used in libraries and information services to enhance learning, participation, and social impact.
With Sri Lanka’s strong push toward digitalizing public services, the symposium examines the evolving role of librarians in facilitating this transformation. It raises critical questions about how libraries can support e-government, digital inclusion, and lifelong learning.
Crucially, we recognize the need for strong legal and policy frameworks to support this vision—ensuring that digital advancements are implemented ethically, inclusively, and sustainably.
Note: This symposium will be held in physical mode at NILIS, University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. However, overseas presenters have the option to present online. Proposals for pre-conference webinars are also warmly welcomed.
