Master of Library and Information Science (ML&IS) - 2024/2026 - Online Mode - For Foreign Students

The objective of the Master of Library and Information Science program at SLQF Level 10, is to enhance the knowledge, research, and other skills of the participants, relevant to Library and Information Science and prepare them for higher degrees and specialized professional employment with an enhanced the managerial, administrative, and technological capacity. Those who complete this 60 credit MLIS program would be able to,

• demonstrate critical awareness of current issues in Library and Information Science and be able to apply techniques relevant to the Library and Information profession.
• Deal with complex issues in the Library and Information Science domain systematically and creatively and make sound judgments and communicate decisions clearly to specialist and non-specialist groups, and
• Demonstrate self-direction and originality in tackling and solving problems in the Library and Information context and be able to plan and implement tasks in a professional manner.

• Closing of Applications: 05th March 2024
• Selection Interview (online) at 10.30 a.m. Sri Lankan time: 09th March 2024
• Notification to selected students: 30th March 2024
• Payment of first installment of fees: 15th April 2024
• Commencement of Classes: 27th April 2024

Library staff of universities, and other Library and Information Professionals in the State and Private sector organisations.

• A Degree (at SLQF Levels 5 or 6) in Library and Information Science from a recognized University/ Institute; OR
• Any other degree (at SLQF Levels 5 or 6) from a from a recognized University/ Institute, with one year experience in Library and Information Science; OR
• Full professional qualifications in Librarianship (Chartered Librarian) of the Sri Lanka Library Association or a similar organization overseas with 03 years of work experience in the executive capacity; AND
• Satisfactory performance at a selection test and an interview to be conducted by NILIS.

For those who complete all modules with a Grade Point Value (GPA) of 2.00 or above for each module, will be awarded the degree. Those who obtain a GPV score of 3.00 or more in each of the course modules will be awarded a Merit pass and those who obtain a GPV score of 3.7 or more in each of the course modules will be awarded a Distinction pass.
