Introduction and rationale
Diploma in School Librarianship is a specialist course offered only by NILIS. It has been placed in Level 3 of the Sri Lanka Qualification Framework (SLQF). In parallel, it is considered to be equal to Level 5 of the National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ).
Information literacy is essential for a child to develop him/herself as a lifelong learner and to be employable. It determines the role a person will play in the globalized information age. Therefore, school libraries must adequately support the education process with resources for student-centered and resource-based learning.
This study program in school librarianship was introduced to prepare library technical staff capable of supporting in this endeavor. Those who complete the Diploma can move forward by registering into the Higher Diploma in Library and Information Management (HDLIM) and reach SLQF 4 (NVQ 6).
Minimum entry requirements: G.C.E. A/L or completion of the Advanced Certificate in School Librarianship (ACSL).
Course duration: 01 year (02 semesters)
Course fee: Rs.27,000 (payable in 02 installments)

Delivery of lessons:
Courses are held on Saturdays. Some classes will be held online. Students must complete continuous assessments for each module. Attendance of over 80% is required to sit for semester-end exams.
