The teacher-librarian is a course designer, teacher, as well as the librarian for building instructional media collections for the school. Entry requirements

A candidate should fulfill both A and B.

A). Educational and professional qualifications:
i) A Bachelors Degree in Education OR Library and Information Science with First or Second Class Honors, awarded by a recognized higher educational institution OR
ii) A Bachelors Degree in any discipline awarded by a recognized higher educational institution, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Teacher Librarianship or Library & Information Science awarded by a recognized higher educational institution OR
iii) A Bachelors Degree in any discipline awarded by a recognized higher educational institution; AND a three-year Diploma/Higher Diploma in Library & Information Science.
B). Appointment as a School Teacher, Teacher Librarian, School Principal, Inservice Advisor, or an Educational Administrator with at least one year of work experience (teachers and administrators with the above qualifications in ‘A’, from the Government as well as private/International School settings, are accepted).

Duration: The course is a part-time program and the duration is one and a half years (03 semesters).

Total fee: Rs. 125,000. It is payable in three installments.

Medium of instruction:

The course is offered in Sinhala and English.

Delivery of lessons and assessment:

The classes will be held at the NILIS, University of Colombo. Sinhala medium classes will be held on Saturdays. English medium classes will be held on Sundays. Some lessons (20-30%) will be conducted online. Continuous assessments (individual and/or group work) will be conducted for each module. To sit for semester-end examinations, a candidate should fulfill the requirement of 80% attendance.
