NILIS Teacher librarian and school librarian courses are designed so that the students develop knowledge and skills to pursue a career as a Teacher/School Librarian. The course contents are designed in such a way that they develop an understanding and expertise as a TL through a series of educational experiences.
To prepare graduate teachers to perform at the initial professional level in Teacher Librarianship to provide the basis for further professional career needs.
Teacher librarians support and implement the vision of their school communities through advocating and building effective library and information services and programs that contribute to the development of lifelong learners.
To give a broad professional education and a solid training in basic professional skills, which will enable students to perform work confidentially as TLs.
To provide a broad understanding of the principles of teacher librarianship, the organisation and management of school library and information centers and of handling, storage and retrieval of information in all media.
To initiate students into theory and practice of research methods as applied in the field of teacher librarianship.
