To provide school librarians with a basic framework of understanding of the principles of library and information science.
To provide initial skills for the school librarians to undertake the setting up a school library/information center.
Upon completion of the course, the learner will be able to:
Represent a perspective of the history of school library development internationally and in Sri Lanka.
Delineate the scope of a school library & information program within an educational framework.
To clarify levels of responsibility for provision of services at the school, zonal, provincial and national levels.
Apply the principles of materials organization and processing of materials in regular formats appropriate for use in school libraries.
Use a computer for communication and information sharing and retrieval.
The non-teaching library staff holding permanent positions in school libraries.
Work in a school library with a minimum of one year full time work experience (with no other formal library qualification).
Coursework - 40%
Individual project - 60%
Course will take the form individual and group assignments, seminars, individual and group presentations, practical work and classroom test.
